Habits in 2014

Well I am pleased to say that I have started 2014 with a good habit ( at least I am hoping it will become a habit)!  January 1 I started running.....well I walked for a bit, then ran for a bit, then walked for a bit more and then a short run.  I am now running more than I walk and that is only after 4 days.

I have to tell you this is not easy for me, I am a self proclaimed exercise phobic, not strictly true, put a wine glass in my hand and some great tunes and I will dance up a storm!  I have found out that not only is that embarrassing for your children but is also not the healthiest way to exercise....... bummer.

So my goal for this year is to get those shoes on at least 4 times a week and get my legs running/walking in said shoes.  So far, so good, we will have to wait and see if I can continue this when school starts.  That will be the true test as I often use not finding time as the best excuse for not exercising.

The second motivator I have is to write my weight and waist measurement on my bathroom mirror, I will see it every day and know that I want it to get smaller.  Don't get me wrong I am not an overweight person but at 4ft 11 any extra weight I put on is not as evenly distributed as it is on a tall person and I have discovered that I do not lose weight as well as I used to before I turned 40.  So I now have to do something about it or turn into that creature from the Star Wars movies Jabba the Hut, not something I really want to do :)

I would love to hear of any tips or tricks you use to keep motivated through the year as I fear that I will fall off the wagon when life becomes busy.  In the meantime I will just keep running!

  1. I'm with you on the wine and dancing Tania!! :) About 6 months ago I joined a gym with 2 other girls from school and it's been great. We meet for classes and it's lots of fun! I think if it was just me I'd find all sorts of reasons not to go, but knowing that I'll get to see them for a chat is a really good motivator.
