How Pinteresting Halloween Edition

I hoped I would be more regular on my How Pinteresting posts buuuut.....it didn't happen, so I will vow to post a How Pinteresting edition when I can.

I have been seeing some fabulous pins on Halloween and I just love some of the crafts I am seeing so I have started a Halloween board, you can see it here.  I have shared some of these on my Facebook page  but decided to also share with all of my blog followers a few of my favourites as well!  So here are some the more Pinteresting pins I have found

I love anything that uses hand/foot/thumb prints, these ghost are not so scary but more on the cute side.

Oh see, here is one using knuckle prints, easy to do!

Another easy craft, that would go great with reading Stellaluna.  I can just see these hanging from the ceiling with bat facts attached.

What kiddo wouldn't love eating worms!!  Some great science on solids and liquids here.....or just an excuse to eat jelly.

Not only Halloween related but a great Art and Maths lesson on symmetry.

Looking up at trees....

Hi friends and welcome to my new followers!  I hope you enjoy stopping in here often!

Today I wanted to show you an art lesson I have done today with my year 2's.  We have been talking about lines and perspective.  So I showed them this picture I found on Pinterest (click on the pic for the pin address)

 Unfortunately we couldn't go outside because it is FREEZING here and it rained today which made the ground icky...also I did not want to hear back from parents that I was irresponsible....I just do not need that.

We discussed the size of the trunk near the edge of the photo and the size of the trunk as it got taller.  We also talked about how you can see some individual leaves and then some that look like a green mass.

Then it was their turn to produce a piece of art titled "Looking up at Trees"  They had to draw in the trunks and the sky and then use their thumbs to mix some yellow and blue paint to create a green shade, they repeated this process throughout the painting to create different hues.  Then they used thumbprints to make the leaves.  Here are a few for your perusal....

I love them!  

I plan on doing a poem to go with them using adjectives for students to show their understanding of how to use adjectives.  

Speaking of adjectives it has been a focus for my students the last couple of weeks and to help students explore the different types of adjectives I created this sorting activity.  Here is a sneak peek before it goes up in my store.....soon......

I can't wait to share their poems with you!  Hopefully they will be ready by next week!  Have to go the hubs is making fruit cake and I sense disaster...

How Pinteresting Science Edition and a linky

I know it has been a looooooonnng time since I have posted a How Pinteresting edition and I really have no excuse for why this has happened other than I lost my drive.   Now I cannot promise that I will be doing this every week as life seems to be getting in the way at the moment, you know how it is work, kids, pets....so annoying when they impinge on my bloggy life.  Well without further ado I resurrect my How Pinteresting series with a bunch of pins related to Science in the Primary classroom.

How Pinteresting Easter edition

Well with Easter just around the corner it would be very remiss of me to not have a How Pinteresting Easter edition.  This was actually a little more difficult than what you think, there are sooooo many great pins out there about Easter.

This is such a fun game to play with the kiddos, not sure if I would let them get all the chocolate though!

How Pinteresting Teaching Time edition

Welcome again to an edition of How Pinteresting.  This week I have been focussing on teaching time in our maths lessons.  I don't know about you but every year I still have those kiddos who have trouble with telling time so I decided to turn to Pinterest for a few ideas, here is what I found!

This is the activity we did in our room this week, I added labels such as quarter past and to, o'clock and half past as well as labelling the minutes and hours hand.  My kiddos loved it!  I even had a couple saying "oooohhhh, I get it now, they are 5 minutes!"

I definitely have to lable my classroom clock...this one is so cute!

Great to have an anchor chart, I will make one next week and hang it near my new and cute flower clock!

and for the kinaesthetic learner!

How Pinteresting Bulletin Boards

Hi friends!  I am starting to get my act together in my classroom, now I just have to get my program in order, quick smart as it is due this coming Friday!!!!   In the meantime they have taken down my old chalkboard and replaced it with a much smaller whiteboard which has left me some extra wall space to use for displays, which leads me into this weeks How Pinteresting post.  I have been scouring Pinterest to find some great ideas for this space, and I thought I would share them with you!

This is so great to have up as a year round board to remind students of the values and skills we need to become life long learners.

This would be quite topical at the moment as we move into Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere

What a great way to instill good reading habits!

I usually have this as seperate anchor charts but I really like this idea.

Week in review and a freebie

Well I finally feel like I had a sowewhat "normal" week this week.

In Maths we focussed on reviewing multiplication and division and explored how they are linked.  I really like to work in small groups and let those students who are independent workers have a chance to forge ahead.  My littles that were struggling with this concept worked with me using a storyboard, if you haven't used one before they are great and allow students to explore numbers and operations using words, symbols, objects and pictures.

The other students played Space Race or did speed tests.  I wish I had remembered to take photos!!!  

The last couple of days we explored Perimeter we demonstrated our understanding by creating a perimeter poster, the students had to write a definition of what perimeter is and then trace around some 2D shapes and measure the edges then calculate the perimeter.  Once again, I didn't take pictures :(  however next week I will take some pics when I have a quiet moment (WHAT? ).

In literacy we have started our Daily 5 rotations and the kiddos really loved it!  I did manage to get a couple of pics for this.  This year I jumped straight into letting the kiddos choose the activities they do and I was pleasantly surprised to find them choosing Work on Writing and Work on Words as their first choice.  How exciting!  

Here are a couple of littles writing the room.  They are finding the penguins from Plug-n-Plan's penguin punctuation pack.  I hid the penguins around the room and they had to search for them, then write the sentence that was on the card using the correct punctuation.  I hid one in a really hard spot and the little girl in this pic is the one that found it, (it was behind the door, heehee)  They loved this activity and can't wait to dive into Daily 5 next week.

It feels so nice to be able to do a post on the goings on in my classroom finally! 

I have decided to move my How Pinteresting series to my Saturday which is most likely Friday in the Northern Hemisphere, so pop in tomorrow to find some Pinterest inspiration for your classroom!

How Pinteresting, Classroom storage ideas

Welcome to my next edition on How Pinteresting.  This week I wanted to share some pins on creative storage.  I am blessed this year to have a storeroom and some shelving in my room but still need to store some of my items both at home and school.  I like to have items that I use everyday close at hand and I often pack away items by theme.

Here are a few of the Pinteresting pins I thought I might like to use this year.

Great idea!  I also use skirt hangers to hang my posters.

Love this, definitely heading out to get some soap boxes, or you could use old video cases.

Of course we have all seen many versions of the crate seats.  I love them and think they are a great idea, another project I would like to complete one day.



This one is so obvious but I actually never thought about using a Pringles tube for rulers.
