Alphabet Tracing

Do you have some kiddos who are struggling with fine motor or letter and sound recognition?  If so this Alphabet Tracing pack is the resource for you! 

I love using resources in my room that tackle more than one curriculum area, at the moment I am actually more focussed on fine motor with my kiddos but the bonus of letter and sound recognition is great as well.

Students love tracing the lines of the pictures and then for a bit more practice they can colour in making sure they stay inside the lines. I gave my kiddos a rainbow pencil but I have found that using highlighters or a fat marker to trace inside bubble letters is a much better option than using pencils as students tend to want to colour in the letter rather than trace it. 

These pages are so versatile you could even use them as playdough mats and copy them on to coloured paper just for a bit of pop and interest. 

My kiddos love to make books that they can take home to share with their family, so another great way to use this resources is to copy 2 sheets to a page and make mini alphabet books for take home practice.

A trip down memory lane

I am really enjoying having no timetable to follow or a place I have to be, ahhhhh, I love holidays!  As it is Winter here I have not really wanted to head out and about, I am not a cold weather person, so staying in is not a hardship for me.

So I have taken this time to cook, clean, create and update.

I took a peek at some of my early products, OH MY!  It amazes me how my standards have changed in such a short amount of time.  So I am going to dedicate my time these holidays at updating anything that is looking tired and old (no I am not talking about me), or that I made in Word, Oh my Word!  (If you create in PowerPoint you will know what I mean!)

I like to make my cards so that they can be folded in half to create a front and back.  It helps to stop that "see through" look when you print them on plain white paper.

I have already printed and laminated this update for a couple of my special needs boys to use when we get back to school.  My daughter and I tested the cards by having a couple of games first hehee.

Hi friends!

I feel as if I have neglected this little blog of late but I have been busy enjoying the holidays and catching up on some reading.  So I thought I would pop in with a bit of a catch up post, here is what I have been up to.

This is my very proud children with their Dad at the Anzac Day ceremony and march.  We were in a little town outside of Hobart, my husband's unit travels to some of the smaller towns that may not have military members.  It was a beautiful day weather wise and the ceremony was conducted wonderfully.  This was also the first time my Mother in law got to see her son march as we don't usually live near enough to family for them to attend, so it was a very special day for our family.

What else have I been doing?  Reading, reading, reading.  I save up all my reading for the holidays that way I won't get interrupted with life and school getting in the way of a good book.

I have also carved out some time for working on TpT and have gotten a companion pack to my Alphabet Robots  up and running, it is matching numbers to number names to 20 and is called Number Robots to 20. (such a creative title!)  I have also bundled them so you can get both at a discounted price.

I still have a week left before I head back to school and will be doing LOTS of things with the kids, swimming, bushwalking, shopping and a quick trip away.  Oh and then I might fit in some planning.....maybe

Alphabet Robots

I had such a productive Sunday!  I made our dinners for the week, beef casserole, potato pie, chicken tikka masala, home made pizza and chicken schnitzel, with a sweet treat pear and blackberry tarte tan, yum!  Even though it is a short week and I am on the count down to the Easter break I am also really tired and very ready for the holidays, so having a weeks worth of dinners ready to go will make the home stretch to holidays a little easier.
What else did I achieve on Sunday?  I made this cute little Alphabet Robots for a couple of my boys who I support.  They need lots of practice with matching lower and uppercase letters as well as identifying initial sounds, and what little boy doesn't love robots :)

Here's a little tip for you when laminating lots of little pieces.  Put a little dab of gluestick on the back of the pieces that you don't want to slip around in the laminate as it goes through the laminator. See in the second photo none of the pieces are slipping out as I lift the laminate.  The glue dries clear so you don't see it.

This is the clip it Robots.  Students clip the lowercase letter that matches the uppercase letter on the robot.  You would easily see if the letter doesn't match.

This file also has a Robot lowercase and uppercase puzzle cards as seen in the pic above and picture and initial sounds puzzle cards.  I have also included 2 recording sheets.

These cards are double sided, so once cut fold them before you laminate them.  

I made these cards so that they would fit into business card sized laminate pouches so minimal cutting.

This is my friends of 10 game.  I love this because it is self correcting with the numbers that add to ten being the same color.  My boys will be busy!

Snap and Go Fish

Just wanted to share a couple of items I have made while I have been home with sick kids over the last couple of days.  In between all the nose blowing, medicine taking, soothing and going to the doctors I managed to fit in a bit of blogging, a bit of creating and a bit of updating.
The first one I wanted to share with you is an update of a game I had made many years ago before I had any computer knowledge, I have revamped it and turned it into a digital file.  It is called CVC Rhyming Snap, kiddos get to Snap! if they have two cards that rhyme.  I still use this with my grade 3's purely because they like playing any kind of card game and it encourages visual discrimination.

I like to make my cards so that they have to be folded over before you laminate them, this way it stops that "see throughness" you can get sometimes when you print them on white paper and it is cheaper than printing onto card.

The second item I made is called Go Fish Alphabet.  It is great for Kinder and consolidation in Year 1, and is easily played independently if students know how to play Go Fish.  The students have to match letters with  the card that has the corresponding picture and word.  If they can't match it- well Go Fish and pick up.

Once again I have made these cards so that they have a front and a back.  

Well I have one kiddo still down and out with the flu so will be having another day off tomorrow, might be able to get to work on a couple more items- silver lining and all that. (:
