Roll and Cover Games

Hey friends just popping in to let you know about a new resource I have finally finished.  This has been on the back burner for a while so with horrible rainy weather I thought this was the perfect time to get it finished.  So I give you Editable Roll and Cover Gameboards!

This is my first editable product I have attempted and I am pretty happy with how it has turned out!  This file allows you to differentiate these game boards to suit your class and students or even for different groups.  You can add numbers, letters or sight words whatever your needs are, it really is endless.  You only need to teach your students once how to play this game and then it will become a familiar and easy center for your sttudents.

All you need to do is open the PowerPoint, choose the slide that has the dice then click on the 'text here' boxes and add whatever it is you want to be on the roll and cover game boards, print, cut and glue the dice together.  Next step is to choose what theme or gameboard you would like your students to use.  Choose from Summer, Autumn/Fall, Winter, Spring, Easter, Christmas gifts, Balloons, Dinosaurs and Stars.  Then just do the same thing for the gameboards as you did for the dice, each theme has 4 gameboards included.

Pictured above is the Stars themed gameboard, just click on the 'text here' and add whatever it is that you want the students to practice.  You are able to change the font, colour and size to suit your needs.
The great thing about this file is that I will be adding to it as I think of more great themes to add.

If you want a copy it will be half price sale for 24 hours only.  Just click on any of the pics to get your copy now.

How far does the apple fall?

Well Sunday night here and over this last week I have really been feeling my creative mojo pouring back in, I wish I knew why because next time I lose it I will be able to find it again.  Maybe it is because I had a day off, if so I will be wishing for another one but so far the signs are not looking good.  So I have another file that I have just uploaded for you to check out.

This game has 3 different ways to play and I will be whipping this one out for my little strugglers to have a go at this week.  Just click on the pic to check it out!

Poetry in Action

The last couple of days we have been talking about verbs in our Grade 2 class.  To help the students understand and to demonstrate that they could understand we made individual lists of verbs and then used this list to create a poem about a noun (which we have explored over the last couple of weeks).

Now I forgot to take photos so I am just going to type out a few that I can remember.  So the structure of it went like this;

The (noun) is
verb,
verb,
verb,
verb,
verb.

Complex, I know :)  The point of this lesson was to see if students could use verbs not necessarily write creative and imaginative poetry...but you know what I got both!  The kiddos were told they had to create an image of a journey in a person's mind, this is just a couple of my favourites

The arrow is                The cockroach is
spinning,                   surviving,
turning,                    crawling,
flying,                     eating,
landing,                    choking,
hitting                     dying.

              The gymnast is
              running,
              flipping,
              twisting,
              landing,
              smiling.

I just loved how they came out and they really were able to create imagery in my head as I read them.  The other thing that I loved about this lesson is that it was quick and easy but also got them past the thinking that poetry had to rhyme.

We also had a huge maths games session!  I love to just get a bunch of games out that I will want them to be playing this term independently.  So I got out some old and new games that focussed on number, place value, odd and even numbers and friends of 10.  Here are a few pics

These next 2 pics are an ooooolllldd game that I made years ago but the kids still love it!  It practices the skill of adding to 10 and is called Rainbow Facts to 10.  I remade it just for TpT, you can check it out here

This is another one that I remade for TpT so you could all enjoy it as well!  It is One Before Bingo and the kiddos really have to think about what number they put their marker on.  One thing I did differenlty for the file on TpT was make it Before and After Bingo so the number line reflects numbers 0 -21. You can take a look here

I still like to use the games I made years ago if I can, but there are quite a few I have updated.
For my next post I have a really cool art activity we have just finished!  Thanks for sticking with this longer than intended post :)

How Pinteresting PE and games edition

Hi friends
I have been a bit absent with my How Pinteresting series because, well, life got in the way....you know how it is.  So I have been busy, busy, busy at school with Athletics practice and Cross Country today, so this week I am looking at Physical Education, games and sports to get our kids moving!  Hope you enjoy it.

Early morning fitness is a great way to start the day and get your students ready for learning. Here are 5 physical education games you can use. http://topnotchteaching.com/time-saving-tips/5-physical-education-activities-you-can-use-for-early-morning-fitness/

This links to a fantastic blog TopNotch Teaching with some fantastic ideas for morning fitness.

Physical Education Games - Robots

This links to a video explaining this easy game of robots.

2) Gym class and recess were always my favorite parts of the day

This pin links to an article that talks about the important aspects of a physical education program with some games for students to play that also have a focus on social abilities.

Physical education ideas for homeschoolers including a link with a list of common games kids play during traditional school.

I just loved this pic, but it also has a link to a blog that has some great ideas for physical activities for homeschoolers that could aslo be relevant in the classroom

Physical Education resources and games for teachers and educators.

Another link to some ideas and examples of games.

Well I hope you feel Pinspired to get your kiddos moving and exercising, quite frankly I am exhausted just looking at it or maybe that was the Cross Country supervision today.

Let me leave you with this little story from today.  On my checkpoint today I was at a crossroad on the track, I had to direct students in one direction from the start of the race and direct students finishing the race toward the finish line.  It got a bit hectic for sure but the kiddos worked it out.....that is until a man on a horse, yes A HORSE!  trotted into the park and wanted to cross the track.  Now I have had to do many things in my teaching career but directing students and horse with rider....no that was a first for me today, heehee.

Well it is things like this that keep things interesting I guess.  2 more school days and then holidays, Yeehah!

Bingo and a Giveaway

Hi friends, so glad it is Friday here!  Handed in my program today, so I feel like a weight has lifted........until I get my feedback I guess, eeeek!
In the meantime to keep my mind off that I have made a Bingo game that focusses on numbers before and after rather than the number called, it is very creatively called......Before and After Bingo!  This is a game that I have revamped for my store but I have been playing it for years in my classrooms.  My kiddos love it because they actually have to think about what number it is they are looking for, rather than just plonking down a counter.  I have included a co-ordinating number line for those kiddos that need a little extra help. It will be on sale for a week at my store for 20% off.  Just click on the pic below to get your copy.

Now to tell you about a little giveaway my friend Brooke is having at her blog Teachable Moments  You can win her Roll- a - sentence bundle from her TpT store, here's a peek at what you get

Wow!  What a great pack and I heard she may have more to add to it!  Head over and enter now!

I'm melting, I'm melting.......

Well those of you who are Down Under know that over the last week we have had some very, very hot weather.  Where I live has been no exception, today and yesterday were the first days that we had under 42 degrees C (that's 109F for you northern folk).  We have been lucky in that we have not been affected by the fires but we live in a rural area and many of the outlying properties and farms have had pasture destroyed and livestock lost.

All this hot weather has kept me inside in the air conditioning and after I cleaned out my study, cleaned the rest of the house, made a huge amount of salads, hounded the children to clean their rooms including their closets and under their bed (I'm sure they forget we were kids once and know all their tricks) there was not much else to do except........get working on some resources, so for your viewing pleasure ladies and gents I give you.....

Snowball Fight!  A Place Value Bingo game

and Length Measurement Task cards for inches, feet and yards

Just click on either pic to go to my TpT store.  Both of these resources are 20% for one week but the first person to leave a comment will get to choose one to have for their very own for FREE!

Snap and Go Fish

Just wanted to share a couple of items I have made while I have been home with sick kids over the last couple of days.  In between all the nose blowing, medicine taking, soothing and going to the doctors I managed to fit in a bit of blogging, a bit of creating and a bit of updating.
The first one I wanted to share with you is an update of a game I had made many years ago before I had any computer knowledge, I have revamped it and turned it into a digital file.  It is called CVC Rhyming Snap, kiddos get to Snap! if they have two cards that rhyme.  I still use this with my grade 3's purely because they like playing any kind of card game and it encourages visual discrimination.

I like to make my cards so that they have to be folded over before you laminate them, this way it stops that "see throughness" you can get sometimes when you print them on white paper and it is cheaper than printing onto card.

The second item I made is called Go Fish Alphabet.  It is great for Kinder and consolidation in Year 1, and is easily played independently if students know how to play Go Fish.  The students have to match letters with  the card that has the corresponding picture and word.  If they can't match it- well Go Fish and pick up.

Once again I have made these cards so that they have a front and a back.

Well I have one kiddo still down and out with the flu so will be having another day off tomorrow, might be able to get to work on a couple more items- silver lining and all that. (:
If you like the look of these items you can check them out here at my store or by clicking on the picture.
